film synopsis
Frank Marshall and Ryan Suffern’s documentary is a celebration of a celebration. For 50 years, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has been paying tribute to the rich culture of Louisiana – the music, the food, the arts and crafts – drawing enormous, happy crowds to bliss out on jazz, the blues, gospel, country and rock. Drawing both on great archival footage and live performances at the 50th anniversary bash, it features such greats as Jimmy Buffett, Pitbull, Al Green, Earth Wind & Fire, Herbie Hancock, Katy Perry, B.B. King, Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville, Ellis Marsalis and his four famous musical sons. You’ll also hear Bruce Springsteen’s moving performance in the aftermath of Katrina, when the Big Easy turned out to prove that even in the face of disaster it was ready to party on. Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story serves up a generous helping of Southern-fried fun, minus the calories.
