film synopsis

Canada's official selection for the International Oscar®, Drunken Birds is an engrossing and unconventional romance following a Mexican laborer who travels to Montreal in search of his long-lost love. The sophomore feature from director Ivan Grbovic stars the captivating Jorge Antonio Guerrero (Roma PSIFF 2019) as Willy, who has fallen for his drug kingpin boss’s wife Marlena. After helping her flee from Mexico, Willy finds himself narrowly escaping his own demise, only to spend the next several years in search of his estranged lover and a new direction in his life. With touches of magical realism and eye-popping cinematography by Sara Mishara, who also co-write the film's screenplay, Drunken Birds is an elegant and surprising tale of star-crossed love spanning North America, and the power and perils of new beginnings.
