film synopsis

Containing perhaps the most original love story that you will ever see, Border is fantastic in every sense of the word. It’s an idiosyncratic thriller focusing on Tina, a Swedish customs officer with a special talent for detecting contraband, who ultimately must choose between good and evil. One of Tina’s gifts is that she can smell guilt and shame. The police use her skill to solve a case involving child pornography. Tina is glad to help because her life is rather lonely; she’s more at ease in nature than with humans. But things change when she meets Vore. The film is based on the short story Gräns by Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist (Let the Right One In), whose writing and fan base is comparable to that of Stephen King and Anne Rice. Just as Let the Right One In provided some unique contributions to vampire lore, Border borrows and expands upon the characteristics of certain creatures from Norse mythology and folktales.

In competition for the FIPRESCI Award.
