The film is a charming fantasy revolving around a sad waif who overcomes her lonely childhood and finds a way to bring cheer and joy to others and ultimately herself. The title role is played by the talented actress, Audrey Tautou, (who won a César for her work in Venus Beauty Institute) Amélie, works as a waitress in a tiny café in Paris. One day her drab life takes a dramatic turn when she discovers a rusty old box of childhood treasures and decides to seek out the original owner. After delighting in this stranger’s pleasure when he is reunited with his old toys, Amélie improvises other acts of kindness for her co-workers and the other people in her life. Along the way, Amélie meets Nino, the love of her life, a sensitive cashier in a porno shop, and through a series of cat-and-mouse games, gradually builds up the courage to meet him.” -PSIFF 2002
