director biography

Malena Vain was born in 1991 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied film direction at Universidad del Cine (FUC). She has also been a screenwriting student at the New York Film Academy. In 2017, she was selected for Werner Herzog’s workshop at EICTV. She has also participated of the Film Program at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT) with Andrés Di Tella, which included seminars with Lucrecia Martel and James Benning. As a screenwriter, she is currently developing the Amazon series EL PRESIDENTE with Academy-Award winner Armando Bo as the showrunner. She also works in advertising as a treatment writer for Rebolución production company. "Business", her first short film, premiered worldwide in the Cinéfondation – Festival de Cannes (Official selection) and was also selected at Miami Film Festival, Palm Springs Festival and Havana Film Festival, among others. Las Partículas (The Particles) received an Honorary Mention from the National Arts Fund (Buenos Aires). She has recently received a benefit from the Metropolitan Culture, Arts and Science Fund (Buenos Aires) to produce “Un bosque es un Jardín”/”A forest is a garden”, an autobiographical documentary about her relationship with a relative of hers, who is a Holocaust survivor.
