director biography

Julia Jansch is a writer/director/ producer, born and raised in South Africa, living in NYC. Julia began her career working in development at FremantleMedia (London). With a major commission for original digital content, Julia was transferred to their LA office to set up an in-house production studio to roll out digital content online. After 2 years she was transferred to RadicalMedia in NYC to set up Conde Nast’s first slate of original programming. After developing series from, Wired’s “The Window” to Vogue’s “In the Vogue Closet”, Julia went on to develop series and documentaries for Netflix and was instrumental in the development of the Oscar-nominated “What Happened, Miss Simone?” and Netflix’s “Abstract: The Art of Design.” After Radical granted her a green card, she went independent and has been focused on developing her own voice as an independent filmmaker. Her short, Far From The Castle (2019) is currently completing the festival circuit and has seen recognition from festivals such as the ReelHeART International Film and Screenplay Festival; Oldenburg International Film Festival; Shnit Worldwide; Silwerskermfees; Video Art and Experimental Film Festival; International Short Film Festival in Drama and more. She has a series in development, inspired by the short, and is currently writing her first feature. With a background in branded content, Julia is also commissioned by brands and platforms to create short form content. Her PSA, “Open Your Eyes,” commissioned by Convicts, featured on Boooooom TV and this summer she was commissioned to create five pieces featuring South Africa’s biggest rapper, AKA. Julia has a filmmaking diploma from The New York Film Academy, an MBA from Oxford and an MSC in Global Governance from Oxford. She is on the advisory board of The Wellbeing Project – an Ashoka-backed organization focused on creating a culture of Wellbeing for change-makers.
