director biography
Kira Dane is a half-Japanese filmmaker and illustrator from New York, currently based in Nara, Japan. She’s a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she majored in Film & Television. She has experience directing, shooting, and editing her own documentary work in the US, as well as Cuba, South Africa, Nepal, and Japan. Most recently, she wrote, co-directed, and animated “Mizuko”, a short documentary that won support in a pitching event for Tribeca Institute’s If/Then Shorts Program. This year she was also chosen as one of the 2019 fellows of the Sundance Ignite Program. Kira is particularly interested in experimental and animated documentaries that focus on growing empathy in overlooked places. Katelyn Rebelo is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn. Her work sits at the intersection of documentary & experimental film, breaking down complex topics with unique visual approaches. She is especially interested in the ability of film to encourage new perspectives and catalyze social change. Most recently she co-directed, animated, and shot "Mizuko" supported by Tribeca Film Institute's If/Then Short Documentary Program & the Sundance Ignite Program. She holds a BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a major in Film & Television and minor in Social and Cultural Analysis.
