director biography

Originally from the suburbs of New York City, Molly Murphy makes work that is witty, graphic, and deep. Her film, A HOLE is inspired by the state of the country as well as the panic/zen-filled experience she had on a flight with engine failure. As you may have guessed, she spent a great deal of her time at USC wandering science and philosophy halls. In 2017 she directed two biology-related films for BASA's BUGS program and worked at sea as an outreach artist for a research cruise investigating the impacts of climate change on ocean acidification. The ocean work culminated in the form of a short documentary that is slated to be part of a Natural History Museum exhibit.
