film synopsis

This fascinating look at the dark side of sports glory offers a coming-of-age drama about a young man’s burning obsession in a world where everything, and everyone, has a price tag. Based on Martin Bengtsson’s memoir In The Shadow of San Siro, the film follows Martin, one of Sweden’s most promising soccer talents who, at 16, achieves his lifelong dream when he is bought by Inter Milan, a prestigious Italian club. But that dream comes at a high price, resulting in sacrifice, dedication, pressure and – most of all – loneliness, leaving Martin to question whether this life is actually the one he yearned for. The marvelous lead performance by Erik Enge poignantly depicts Martin’s struggles with the pressures of success. With Tigers, director Ronnie Sandahl continues his run of riveting sports biopics, which includes the screenplays for Borg vs. McEnroe (PSIFF 2018) and the upcoming Perfect, about gymnast Kerri Strug, for director Olivia Wilde.
