film synopsis
Elena (Julia Chávez) is a single mom working paycheck to paycheck, living in a Texas trailer park with her rebellious nine-year-old son Tom (Israel Rodriguez Bertorelli). When Tom grows into a terror at school – refusing to follow directions and becoming aggressive with classmates – he’s quickly diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed medication. But when Tom ends up hospitalized due to the drugs’ dangerous side effects, Elena refuses to continue administering it. As Tom’s behavior intensifies, Elena finds herself facing the unimaginable possibility of losing custody of her son. The latest from directors Rodrigo Plá and Laura Santullo (who wrote the novel on which the film is based) is a powerful tale of resilience and hope about a woman standing up for herself and her son against the callous, profit-driven industry that’s supposed to help her.
