film synopsis
John (James Norton) is a 34-year-old window cleaner in Glasgow, and the single dad to four-year-old Michael (Daniel Lamont), a quiet, serious boy who adores his father. The sweetness of their relationship is puzzling when we realize early on that John is looking to find foster parents for his child. Then we discover he has no choice: John has an illness he won’t survive. With the help of social services, John sets out to find the right home for his son. But what if he makes the wrong choice? Written and directed with rare sensitivity, Uberto Pasolini’s understated, quietly devastating film never succumbs to the mawkish. Usually cast as a heartthrob or a villain, Norton is a revelation as the tattooed, uneducated, dedicated John, and the chemistry between him and the uncannily precocious Lamont is indeed something very special.
