A striking 16-year-old gay boy in Sydney, addicted to a hookup app, pursues anonymous sex with older men until this intimacy-averse lad becomes obsessed with one of his tricks in this up-to-the-minute coming-of-age story with the pulse of an erotic thriller.

film synopsis

An up-to-the-minute queer coming-of-age story and stylish erotic thriller, Samuel Van Grinsven’s remarkable first film follows 16-year-old Sequin (Conor Leach) as he explores the world of anonymous sex. Addicted to a Grindr-like app called Anon, the striking, red-headed Sydney high schooler pursues older men. But after sex, he immediately blocks them. Emotions don’t enter the equation. But at a sex club where he runs into a married man who’s begun to stalk him, he becomes obsessed with one of his partners whose identity he’s desperate to uncover. Sexy but never exploitative, Van Grinsven’s drama paints an honest but never judgmental portrait of the hook-up culture, and of the ways a younger and older generation of gay men deal with it. Leach is a sensation as the horny but increasingly bewildered Sequin, who gets his name from the glittery halter top he wears to his assignations.
