film synopsis
It’s Christmastime in Chile, but for Peruvian migrant worker Lina (Magaly Solier), merriment and good cheer are harder and harder to come by. Unable to make it home to Lima for the holidays, the Quechua immigrant finds herself stuck house-sitting for her wealthy boss, overseeing renovations on the type of home she could only attain in dreams. Harried by her teenage son’s insistence on an overpriced soccer jersey for Christmas despite money being too tight to mention, and the revelation that her ex-husband is happy with a new wife and baby, Lina copes in increasingly inventive and resourceful ways. By forming an ad hoc family with her boss’s young daughter, finding release at the touch of new lovers, and losing herself in a series of rich, colorful and fantastic musical daydreams, Lina fends off loneliness and reclaims her identity in this fresh, sparkling and unconventional musical from writer/director María Paz González.
