film synopsis
The heartwarming journey of a man and his elephant is the center of this unconventional and charming buddy picture.
Thana, once a renowned architect, finds himself squeezed out by younger, more ambitious colleagues; his marriage on the rocks; and he is spiraling into a late-midlife crisis. While wandering the streets of Bangkok, he happens upon an old friend: Pop Aye, the elephant who was his childhood companion in rural Thailand. Leaving behind his thankless home life, Thana sets out to return Pop Aye to his natural habitat at Uncle Peak’s farm in the village where they both grew up. It is not easy to hitch a ride with an elephant in tow, but Pop Aye has a charisma to charm all, and trudging along dusty roads, the pair run into bumbling cops, drifters, a shaggy haired hippie and a transgender woman, all full of character and kindness, reminding Thana of the importance of small pleasures.
In competition for the FIPRESCI Prize.
