film synopsis
The director and producer behind the Academy Award® and Golden Globe-nominated arthouse hit Tangerines (PSIFF 2015) team up again for this Georgian-village-set dramedy. An unexplained tragedy has propelled former film director Giorgi into a new life as an Orthodox priest. His first assignment takes him to a small parish in a mountain hamlet. Helped by a chatty assistant, Father Giorgi decides to bring the locals closer to the church by launching a film screening series. After the showing of Some Like It Hot, the villagers remark that the music teacher, Lili, looks a lot like Marilyn Monroe. When Father Giorgi finally meets the burg’s resident femme fatale, even he is not immune to temptation.
Director Zaza Urushadze and cinematographer Giorgi Shvelidze capitalize on their scenic mountain locations with some spectacular shots. Playing older than his real age, handsome theater, film and TV actor Dimitri Tatishvili deftly embodies the tension between the ecclesiastical and the carnal.
