film synopsis

Shukla, a rickshaw driver from a ruined Brahmin family, is getting married according to his mother’s wishes. He tells his friends that he will do everything in his power to make his wife happy but soon finds out that he has many obstacles to overcome, including his own family.

Much to Shukla’s chagrin, when his wife joins the family she is immediately treated as a servant by her in-laws. And what are they to do on their wedding night when the family lives in a one-room shack with only a line of suitcases to separate their sleeping areas? As if things weren’t bad enough, Shukla’s sister moves back in after a tiff with her husband, bringing more crowding and complications.

It will take all of this newlywed’s creativity and determination to keep his word and bring a smile to the lovely face of his shy bride.
