• Foreign Language Oscar Directors in Discussion

Nowhere else can a festival audience see so many of these films on the same slate. And for the fourth year running we’re proud to present a panel discussion with shortlisted directors, giving the Festival audience a unique understanding of these films and their makers. Moderated by Peter Debruge from Variety.

Panel synopsis

It's another record-breaking year for the Academy's Best Film in a Foreign Language category: 92 distinct countries put forward a film with hopes of taking home that coveted golden statue. In December that impressive number narrowed to nine, with the final five nominees announced on January 23. Of those 92 national selections, 46 are on offer at the Palm Springs International Film Festival's 2018 edition in the Awards Buzz screening section. Nowhere else can a festival audience see so many of these films on the same slate. And for the fourth year running we're proud to present a panel discussion with shortlisted directors, giving the Festival audience a unique understanding of these films and their makers.
